Winners of the ExploraVision Nationals

Dear Northmoor Parents' and Students':


We just wanted to let you know about some fantastic news regarding 2 of your fellow students. Bennett Stouder and Alex Hoyng (6th Graders at Northmoor) just found out that they won 1st Place in the ExploraVision Nationals- a scientific competition that has students create and explore a vision of future technology by developing new ways to apply current science. These boys came up with the innovation of putting turbines along the runways at airports in order to use the air kicked back from jets upon takeoff to power the airports (and possibly more) in order to reduce fossil fuel consumption. As a reward, they will each receive a $10,000 savings bond to be used toward college, an iPad, a certificate, and a banner.  Unfortunately, they were supposed to be able to attend a big awards ceremony in DC in June, but with the pandemic guidelines, the ceremony will now be virtual.  But these boys have persevered throughout the process and the changes that have been made with all of the new guidelines.
