Constitution Day

Northmont American History students in Mr. Jacobs' and Mr. Lamb's class were selected by the Bill of Rights Institute (BRI) as Grand Prize Winners in the #WhatUnitesUsContest for Constitution Day 2019. They will be receiving a $200 Pizza Hut Gift Card, BRI Curriculum Kit, and a class set of BRI Student Swag Bags (incl. cinch backpack, pocket constitution, pen, sticky book, sticker set). The competition encouraged teachers and students across the nation to create a video in three minutes or less, sharing what brings us together in common Constitutional culture?

After brainstorming ideas, it was determined the best way to help students answer that question was to invite civil servants from the local community to share the civic values they value the most, demonstrate in their profession, and believe unite our community. On Constitution Day, students were joined by local judges who spoke about the importance of justice and responsibility, police and firefighters who elaborated on courage and vigilance, city council members and mayors who expounded on initiative and resourcefulness, and military serviceman who shared how honor and perseverance defined their purpose and role in creating a better society.

After having the opportunity to listen to the men and women who serve our community, students used the FlipGrid app on their iPads to provide a video response to the question, what brings us together in common Constitutional culture? A collection of their responses and the winning video submission can be viewed below. Congratulations!
