One Call COVID Advisory and Community Table Reminder

Good Afternoon! The Montgomery County Board of Health passed a resolution during its meeting today, issuing a “Stay at Home Health Advisory” for Montgomery County. It is effective immediately, it advises residents to stay at home to the greatest extent possible due to the significant increase in COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County. Residents are advised to only leave home to go to work or school, or for essential needs such as seeking medical care, going to the grocery store or pharmacy, or picking up food. Thank you for continuing to work with us to keep our face-to-face students in school! Again, this advisory allows for people to attend school meaning Northmont will continue to educate students face-to face.

This is also a reminder about the Community Table Christmas Store. The deadline to apply for holiday assistance is this Friday, November 20. Forms can be filled out and dropped off at FISH, Salem Church of God, or the Board of Education office.

Take care and stay safe!

October 21, 2020 (Electronic Report Cards)

Good morning Northmont Families,

This school year, students in grades 2-12 will receive electronic report cards through Progress Book. First quarter quarter grades are due today, so all work for 1st quarter should be turned in. Report cards will be ready for families to view on Friday, October 30.

If you have any questions regarding access to Progress Book or need more information, please email progressbook@northmontschools.net.

Thank you for the sacrifices and adjustments you have made during this time. Happy end of the quarter!

October 19, 2020 (2-6 Art/Music/PE Assignments)

Hello Northmont families,

The 2nd-6th grade Art, Music, and PE teachers are working hard to keep students' grades up to date as they submit assignments. Please keep in mind that they are frequently updating grades, however, they have many students and this process does take a lot of time. As the first quarter is coming to an end, there are few things to know about these grades:

  • These classes only post semester grades. So you will not see a grade on your child's report card for the first quarter.
  • The current grades are posted in ProgressBook which families can check online. If you are unsure of how to do this, please email progressbook@northmontschools.net.
  • Teachers in these classes will continue to collect quarter 1 assignments through Saturday, November 7th. After this date, quarter 1 assignments will no longer be accepted.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher(s). Thanks for all you are doing to support your child during this time.

Thank you!

October 1, 2020 (Early Dismissal Clarification)

Good afternoon Northmont Families,
We want to offer a little clarity about the daily early dismissals when we return to the buildings later this month. The soft start calendar is also attached to this email. If you need additional clarification, please feel free to contact Jenn Mills at jennifer.mills@northmontschools.net.

One Hour Early Dismissals:
To be able to provide support to fully remote students throughout the week, there will be a one hour early dismissal Mondays-Thursdays for face-to-face students through December.

Face-to-face students:
In order to include this as part of students' attendance hours, work must be assigned to be completed when they are at home.
This work should not take more than one hour to complete and should not just be “busy” work. It could be an extension of what was done in class that day or working on one of the instructional apps they have access to (like Dreambox, RazKids, Nearpod, etc.)
A student(s) may have to quarantine at any time and without advance notice. It is important the face to face students remember how to use the online resources in case they need to switch to temporary remote status. The one hour early release can be used to provide opportunity for students to practice these skills.
Buildings are working on a plan for what this will look like and will be communicated to you as soon as the plans are finalized.

Fully remote students:
Each building is preparing a plan for what will happen during the hour (after face-to-face students are dismissed) to support fully remote students and will communicate that plan to you when it is finalized.

October 1, 2020 (Transportation)

Northmont City Schools will be using a new parent transportation app, Stopfinder, for the upcoming school year. Stopfinder is the easy to use, all-in-one app that allows you to have the most accurate information about your child’s bus schedule at any time from anywhere. In addition to displaying your child’s transportation information, Stopfinder features push notifications and a private messaging feature that will allow you to communicate directly with the Transportation Department.

The email address that is currently on file with the district, the address used for this communication, will be used for Stopfinder setup. If you need to update your primary email address, please contact your building to make the change immediately.

Please watch for a Stopfinder invitation soon. Stopfinder can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play. As an added security feature, you will have 24 hours from the time the email invitation is sent to sign in to StopFinder and set a password. This will give you access to your child's bus information. Stopfinder will require an invite and registration through the district prior to accessing your child’s transportation schedule.

Good Evening Northmont Families!

This evening at our September school board meeting, we shared our plan for bringing students back for face-to-face learning beginning in October. Included in this plan is the remote learning option. The attached calendar will help paint the picture more clearly. We’ve also made adjustments to the Northmont Restart Plan that can be seen HERE. This journey is ever-changing and we appreciate your patience as we work to get students back in the buildings. While the restart plan is at the district level, each school building will share individual plans with more specific information.

Reminder: After reviewing the plans, families who feel the need to switch options are asked to notify their building immediately so transportation needs and class sizes can be equitable.

September 4, 2020 Grades 4-12

Good Afternoon Northmont Families,

I hope that all of your students are off to a successful start to this school year.  I want to share with you an attached document that explains how parents can have access to their student’s Canvas account.  If you are not familiar with Canvas, it is the new Learning Management System that is being used in grades 4-12.

You can set up the Canvas Parent app to notify you about missing assignments, course announcements, events, and it has a variety of additional features.  The Canvas Parent app allows parents the ability to see what their child sees in the class.  If you have any issues with this technology, please email  ipadinfo@northmontschools.net.  Finally, there are three videos that may assist you with the Canvas Parent app.

  1. Please see this video for instructions on setting up the Canvas Parent app.

  2. Please see this video for setting up notifications in the Canvas Parent app.

  3. Please see this video with directions on messaging your student’s teachers in the Canvas Parent app.

We look forward to an excellent school year with your student!

August 5, 2020

Good evening Northmont families,

My name is Jenn Mills, the district’s new Family Engagement Coordinator. I am thrilled to work for such a great district!

A team of teachers and administrators have been meeting regularly throughout the summer to plan for the 2020-21 school year’s Remote Learning Academy. Spring offered us a unique opportunity to work remotely with our students and figure out what worked and what didn’t. Our plan is to integrate what worked well with some new platforms to give our students every tool to succeed in this uncharted time. The team is currently working on plans to support the various needs of families such as having evening times available for students and teachers to meet virtually. The team is also working on teacher schedules that will include times for them to virtually meet with students on a regular basis. iPad distribution plans are also being revised and updated. We will continue to communicate updates with families as schedules are finalized.

Stay safe and stay well!

August 3, 2020

Good evening Northmont Families,

Tonight the district needs to share a significant update and changes regarding the restart of school for the upcoming year. Current data indicate the number of COVID-19 cases in our community are increasing and continue to impact our own employees who are essential to the reopening of school. Based on the recommendation from Public Health Dayton-Montgomery County and the Governor’s Level 3 indicator for our county we will begin the school year remotely.

Northmont will delay the beginning of the school year for students until September 1, 2020. When school begins on September 1, all students will be learning remotely. In the meantime, we will expand our ability to implement robust remote learning options with more staff training. The district is announcing this now to give working families time to make arrangements for students being home during the day. This was an extremely difficult decision because we know the strain this puts on our families but the district must ask families to make arrangements for remote learning for the first quarter (September 1st- October 21st).

We know this is a burden to many families, but please respect this difficult decision as we look to keep our community as safe as possible in these difficult times.
