Dear Northmont Middle School Parents and Community,
On behalf of the entire Northmont Middle School staff, I welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. I hope you had a wonderful summer full of exciting memories from time spent with family and friends.
As I begin my sixth year as principal of Northmont Middle School I couldn’t be more excited to start back this year working alongside our highly qualified and talented staff, our wonderful students and supportive families and community that make this such a fantastic place to learn and work. At NMS we are committed to providing students an exceptional education with diverse opportunities so they maximize their potential and are productive responsible citizens. We do this through a variety of curricular and extracurricular clubs, activities and sports. We encourage all students to become involved in an extracurricular activity or club during their middle school years. Engaging and participating in extracurricular opportunities enable students to make new friends, learn new skill sets and be a part of something. Our 1:1 technology enhances the learning experience for students and staff. It puts the world at their fingertips and will open up endless possibilities.
In addition, we are excited to begin our fourth year with Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS). PBIS is a school-wide approach designed to improve school climate, to achieve improved academic and social outcomes and to increase learning for all students. This program will continue to help us reinforce desired behaviors, diminish the recurrences of challenging behaviors and teach appropriate behaviors to all students. The program got off to a strong start last year with positive benefits shown in both grades and behaviors. We encourage our students to demonstrate the Northmont Way: Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Resourceful.
We ask that you take an active part in your student’s education by helping with homework and studying, by setting boundaries and by being there to listen and provide support when needed. Please make us aware of any issues or questions you might have, so we can help your child have a successful school year. If you have questions or ever need assistance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Gover (7th-grade principal), Mr. Mengerink (8th-grade principal) or myself at 832-6500 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have a great year,
