Principal's Message

Good Morning Parents and Guardians,

On Wednesday (3/18) of this week, Northmont Middle School will be starting online learning with our students.  Most teachers will be using Google Classroom to post instruction and assignments.  As we go through this change in instructional delivery, I think it’s important that we rethink how everyone can contribute to making sure that our students get the most out of the online learning.  Below are some expectations that we’ve set for our students and our teachers.

Students - We have asked our students to check their Northmont student emails multiple times on a daily basis.  In addition to utilizing Google Classroom, this will be the primary form of communication between teachers and students.  Students need to meet deadlines on assignments similar to being in school.  We have asked students to set a routine.  Ideally, students would complete their work at some point during normal school hours.  We recommend this because that is the time teachers have set aside to answer questions and post information.  However, we realize that similar to a regular school day, many students complete their homework at night, and that is also fine.  Students need to be completing their work on a daily basis.

Teachers - We have asked teachers to make themselves available to student questions during the regular school day, to clearly communicate assignments and deadlines to students, and we have asked teachers to monitor student progress on these assignments.

Parents - We could use your help establishing a routine with students.  We understand that this transition will be difficult for some students, but establishing a routine of when the work will be completed will greatly help ensure that progress is being made.  Also, please do not hesitate communicating with your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns.  Emailing your child’s teacher is definitely encouraged.  Here is a link where you can find teacher email addresses.   Also, if your child left something at school (ipad, coat, etc.) please let us know ASAP so that we can help retrieve this today.  Please contact the main office at 937-832-6500 and we can help facilitate you retrieving these items.

Please see this link with facts on the coronavirus.  It is provided in multiple languages.
